That Sugar Movement is a profit-for-purpose organisation committed to helping individuals live and feel better through a balanced lifestyle and eating habits, the result of resounding support for That Sugar Film across more than 20 countries around the world.

Whilst not a governing body or industry association, That Sugar Movement is recognised as a leading advocate for healthy eating and a global platform for development and sharing of techniques, tools and the need for change.

That Sugar Movement believes a multifaceted approach is necessary to change behavior, including public policy initiatives, funding into diagnosis and treatment of obesity and knowledge to make good choices within our environment. It is the latter where we can make a difference, by giving people the tools to identify where sugar exists, and the techniques to create sustainable lifestyle changes, so they are empowered to help themselves and those around them.

The mission of That Sugar Movement is to forever change the way we think about “healthy” food, founded by Damon Gameau as writer and director of That Sugar Film and now boasts a community of more than 400,000 people wanting to live and feel better through balanced eating.

Our Origins

THAT SUGAR FILM started as one man�s journey to discover the bitter truth about sugar. Australian actor/director, Damon Gameau embarked on a unique experiment to document the effects of a high sugar diet on a healthy body, consuming only foods that are commonly perceived, or promoted to be, healthy.

Over three years of development and production, Damon and his crew travelled the world to interview experts at the forefront of researching the impact of current levels of sugar consumption.

The response confirmed what Damon suspected: people did not know the amount of added sugar hiding in their food and supermarket shelves. Since the film�s release in 2015, the message has resonated globally. That Sugar Film is now the highest grossing Australian cinema documentary of all time, and has had major releases across New Zealand, the UK, Canada, South Africa, the United States, Europe, Asia and the America�s.

This journey has taken Damon to address the UK and New Zealand Parliaments, meet with leading athletes such as the LA Lakers, screen for the Royal College of Medicine in London and appear on TV shows across the BBC, The Today show and Dr Oz in the US.

"Almost 60% of individuals were motivated to reduce their added sugar intake after watching That Sugar Film - following Doctor's orders motivated just 2%."
